Great acting means that viewers forget that they are watching an actor or actress playing a role – the actor fully becomes the character. In Brave, actress Kelly Macdonald voices the main character, Merida, and does a beautiful job at convincing us we are watching the journey of a teenager trying to connect with her mother. With Brave now playing in North America (and starting to expand to theaters around the world) and its video game adaptation available, Macdonald spoke about voicing the fiery redhead for the screen as well as the game console. Photos From ‘Brave’ World Premiere At The Dolby Theatre
The world premiere of Brave, Pixar’s latest feature-length film, was held last night in Hollywood, California. Members of the Pixar production staff turned out to celebrate the imminent release of the film. The premiere was held at the Dolby Theatre, which had its grand re-opening, after the sound company took over the naming rights from Kodak. The Kodak Theatre name may sound familiar, as it has been the home for the Academy Awards. Take a look at photos from the animated film’s world premiere after the break! [Read more…]
Watch: ‘Brave’ Says “Happy Father’s Day” In New Promo
With the release of Brave only one week away, there has been an avalanche of promos for the upcoming Pixar film. Many of them have gone the comedic route, parodying such things as informercials and fashion ads. I have always been a fan of the emotional ads, which is why I thought the Mother’s Day Brave promo was the best one in the film’s marketing campaign. With Father’s Day right around the corner (you have less than two days to buy those last-minute presents), Disney/Pixar has released a similar promo, this time focusing on Merida and her father’s relationship. Watch the promo in HD after the jump! [Read more…]
Watch: New ‘Brave’ Clip Gives Us A Peek At Merida’s Family
In Brave, Merida’s family is quite the interesting bunch – her father (King Fergus) would rather joke than fulfill his obligations; her mother (Queen Elinor) is the serious one, ruling over the kingdom from behind-the-scenes; her triplet brothers silently partake in mischief on an endless drive to consume pies and other sweets. A new clip from the film was released earlier today, which gives us a glimpse at every single one of these characteristics. Take a look at the video after the break! [Read more…]

‘Brave’ Standees Start Hitting Movie Theaters
With about three months until the release of Brave, the marketing for the film is now starting to push into the halls of movie theaters. Sure, trailers and posters for the Pixar film have been a mainstay in theaters over the past several months, but now standees have also started to pop up. Now, standees don’t sound all that cool, but the design of these cardboard cutouts is actually quite creative. Take a look at the great Brave theater standees after the jump! [Read more…]
‘Brave’ To Focus On Mother-Daughter Relationship, Will Overlook Romance
Pixar has taken a lot of heat over the past decade for its lack of female protagonists. Then, when Brave was announced, the news of a lead female character brought yelps of joy, but also a bit of uneasiness since the lead would be a princess. The last thing the public wanted to see was Pixar do a clichéd character, though, there was hope for a unique take on a princess story given the studio’s reputation for creative and imaginative stories. In the last issue of TIME Magazine, there is an in-depth article that brings confirmation to that hope – Brave is set to subvert the princess story by ignoring romance and focusing on the mother-daughter relationship. WATCH: Epic ‘Brave’ Japanese Trailer
A few days ago, Disney Japan released a new trailer for Brave, and as it normally goes, it showed off a lot (and I mean, a lot) more of the film than the American trailers have. It seems to be more in line with the gorgeous and ominous teaser trailer that was shown in theatres with Cars 2. You can watch the trailer after the jump, but be warned, while the trailer is beautiful and epic, it shows much more footage from Brave. It is packed with more spoilers, especially if you speak Japanese. If you weren’t convinced by the previous trailers, then you will be convinced by this one. Check it out after the jump! [Read more…]
