If you watched The Incredibles, you likely fell in love with Jack-Jack, the baby of the Parr/Incredibles family. Whether it was his charm, his adorable mannerisms, he won the hearts of many before he even had the opportunity to showcase any powers. In the short film that accompanied the film’s DVD release, we were given a brief preview of the sheer number of powers that were hiding away underneath that cute exterior. In Incredibles 2, we see much more of Jack-Jack and exactly what he can do! [Read more…]
I Toured Pixar’s Secret Archives And It Was ‘Incredible’
Think of all the creative materials that go into making an animated film – e.g. artwork, research photos. There is an insane amount of this creative work that is amassed during a film’s production cycle. All of this begs to be preserved in some way, whether to honor and celebrate a film’s history or to inspire artists and filmmakers on films years later. Pixar has their own Archives collection, where a significant amount of these materials are, indeed, saved. I visited the special building where the Archives is housed and I was blown away. Read about my experience after the break! [Read more…]
Take A Tour Through Pixar’s Inspiring ‘Incredibles 2’ Art Gallery
Pixar’s films, when complete and seen on the big screen, feature stunning visuals, achieved through the use of 3D computer animation. It is easy to overlook all the effort that goes into actually developing these works of art, long before animation ever occurs. During the pre-production process, artists create many pieces of concept art, with some ideas evolving into what we see in the final product, while other ideas are abandoned yet are still fascinating to view. After the break, take a peek at many examples of Incredibles 2 concept art that were created! [Read more…]
‘Incredibles 2’ Features A Huge City With Amazing Details – How Pixar Made It Happen
The Incredibles was a landmark film for Pixar Animation Studios. It was the first film from the studio where the main characters were human. This also led to the creation of a city where the characters lived. Compared to the fantastical worlds that were created for earlier films such as Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo, which were all inspired by elements of our world, The Incredibles took place entirely in locales where humans were the key characters, and the scenes were shot from the perspective of humans. Municiberg, the city where the Parr family resided, was created and mapped out for the first film. Incredibles 2, though, gives us much more of the city. What is the process in bringing the city to life? I interviewed the city’s creators and we discussed this very question. [Read more…]
‘Incredibles 2’ Director Brad Bird On Telling A Story With A Female Lead
The film The Incredibles was a story about a family that happened to have super powers. One of the reasons it was so good was that audiences could relate to the family and the problems the members of the group were each experiencing. Still, Bob Parr, Mr. Incredible, was in the lead role. For the sequel, it is his wife, Helen Parr (a.k.a. Elastigirl), who is at the forefront of the story. Some have wondered whether Pixar decided to develop a woman-led story following everything happening in the news, inside and outside of the studio. Brad Bird, director of Incredibles 2 has now gone on the record to state the facts about this. Read what I heard him discuss after the break. [Read more…]
‘Incredibles 2’ Director Brad Bird Explains Why He Is Making A Sequel And Why It Picks Up Right After The First Film
Sequels are not easy to make. Actually, let me rephrase that. They may be easier to make than original films but challenging to make well. Although characters, their personalities, and the world their stories take place in have already mostly been created, providing a fresh perspective that is not simply a retread of the first film is often difficult. It is why we have many sequels that do not capture the creativity and ingenuity of their predecessors. I had the chance to hear from Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird on why he is making a sequel. [Read more…]
Samuel L. Jackson Begins Voice Work For ‘Incredibles 2’
The first Incredibles film was released in 2004. The Brad Bird-directed feature is the number one request for a Pixar sequel, even from among many who prefer that the studio focus on non-sequels. The most probable reasoning behind that is that The Incredibles is often cited as being one of the best superhero capers (I would argue that its focus on family, rather than the superhero aspect is what makes the film so good). A sequel is indeed in production, and is being released sooner than originally announced, as it is now coming in 2018. Work on the film is well underway, including voice work by its great cast. Why Hasn’t There Been An ‘Incredibles’ Sequel?
Ever since The Incredibles hit theatres, many fans have been clamoring for a sequel. It is an interesting situation, as many people have also said that they would rather Pixar work on original films. The studio answered that call this year when they announced a slate of brand new films, one taking place in a world where dinosaurs are still roaming around and the other that takes viewers inside the human mind. However, The Incredibles seems to be the one main exception to the “no sequel” call from movie buffs. The film’s director, Brad Bird, was asked by Movies.com (via First Showing), why we have yet to see a sequel to his big hit. His answer? Oh yeah – we already knew the answer. [Read more…]
