Book Review: “Two Guys Named Joe”
Two Guys Named Joe

"Two Guys Named Joe" is available in bookstores now

Many people wonder about the success story of Pixar Animation Studios. The studio’s rise from near-extinction to critical and financial success is a fairy tale that is fascinating to learn about. Then there is the larger Walt Disney Studios that is known for its animated classics such as Snow White and Dumbo. In theatres, we get to see the final products, but there are the unsung heroes (unkown to many in the audience) who work laboriously to bring us the memorable characters and emotional storylines. Two of those individuals, Joe Ranft of Pixar and Joe Grant of Disney, helped to change the way the animation industry is viewed. Tragically, in 2005, the world lost both of these artists. In his book, Two Guys Named Joe, renowned animation historian John Canemaker recounts the lives of the “two Joes” assisted by the narrations of those who loved them. After reading the book, you may not only grow fond of Ranft and Grant, but you will be moved by the realization of how much we owe both of them. [Read more…]

  • A new Onward poster was released today! Onward is Pixar’s “suburban fantasy adventure” starring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland. Also, a pair of pants. When the Lightfoot brothers try to bring back their father, who they lost years ago, the magic goes haywire and only half of their father has returned. The story of the film centers on the characters racing against the clock to reunite with their dad. I can already feel the tears!

  • “Our mission with Andy is complete.” That line from Toy Story 3 has stuck with me for almost a decade now. It made me think of all the toys I’ve left behind throughout my life. The Toy Story films have deeply increased my feelings of guilt toward the toys that I stopped playing with or gave away. Still, the message in Toy Story 3 was that your relationship with the toys may change, but the simple act of finding a new home for the toys could give so much meaning to other people’s lives. Now, I refuse to throw away toys - I either keep them for myself, give them to my daughter, or find them a new home.
I really do feel that these films have changed people’s lives. I have to imagine there are many other people out there who second-guess throwing toys in the trash and instead give them to others who can create happy memories.
Thanks to Disney for sending these toys my way to help me tell my toy story!

  • “I love you, Giggle McDimples!” - my daughter, reminding me why she’s the cutest. I bought her this Giggle McDimples toy weeks before she had even seen Toy Story 4. Usually, she doesn’t like playing with toys based on characters she’s never seen before. BUT, the second that she saw Giggle, she wouldn’t put her down for hours. I would say there are a few reasons why:
1) she loved the design of the character and the toy
2) that great personality brought to life by @allymaki.

I’m so glad that I captured this on video. Taking photos is wonderful but always remember to capture some videos of your life, too! There’s something special about moving pictures and audio that transport you back to that memory. If you have a toy story to tell or video to share, post it on your feed and use the hashtag #whatsyourtoystory!
