Just a few days after posting an article that shared images of this year’s Best Picture nominees featuring Pixar characters, we have another Internet-developed sensation for you. Jon Negroni, famous for his extensive “Pixar Theory,” which posited that every film from the animation studio took place in the same world, has written about another “connection” which theorizes that in the Toy Story films, Andy’s mother is actually Jessie’s previous owner who abandoned her.
What If This Year’s Best Picture Nominees Featured Pixar Characters?
The question asked in the headline of this article is a ridiculous one but as we have often seen, the Internet is always prepared for situations like this. Where there is an outlandish idea, there are some creative folks waiting to provide us with a preview of what it may look like. There were no Pixar films nominated for an Academy Award this year, but what if characters in the studio’s catalog appeared in the nine films nominated for Best Picture – what would that look like? Find out after the break!
Pictures of the Day: ‘Toy Story’ Rex Cake
Rex the dinosaur from the ever-popular Toy Story has been in the spotlight recently, with his starring role in the hilarious short, Partysaurus Rex. The anxious character certainly has a large following of fans who have celebrated him in creative fashion. One example of Rex dedication recently surfaced on Facebook, when Nuno Pereira posted several photos of a cake with the likeness of the lovable character. Take a look at a selection of the photos after the break!
Awesome: Hilarious ‘Finding Nemo 3D’ No Talking PSA
When filmmakers put together a movie, they try to fully immerse the audience into the storyline – great films are able to transport us out of the theater and into the film world so that actors are no longer actors, but the characters they are portraying. However, even a great film is susceptible to distractions within a theater, such as talking and smartphone usage. Disney/Pixar has teamed up with AMC to create an awesome new PSA that shows us the danger of talking on a mobile phone while a film such as Finding Nemo 3D is playing. Watch the hilarious PSA after the break!
Awesome: New ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Concept Art Features Animated John Lasseter
Wreck-It Ralph may not be a Pixar film, but the latest animated film from Disney has me extremely excited for its creative and original storyline – an arcade game character named Wreck-It Ralph is a villain who is tired of being the “bad guy” and tours various gaming worlds to determine where he would best fit. Disney is looking to give the film an authentic video game feel with cameos from such well-known characters such as Sonic, Bowser, Q*Bert, and Chun-Li (among many others). It was already one of my most anticipated films of the year and then I saw some new concept art which has me even more thrilled. One piece even features a cameo from a certain famous Pixar and Disney personality! [Read more…]
Awesome: Behind The Scenes Of Live-Action ‘Toy Story’
A group of ambitious young filmmakers has been shooting a live-action version of Pixar’s first feature film, Toy Story. This is not simply a retelling of the groundbreaking animated film in live-action form – it is a shot-for-shot remake of the Pixar film. During production of their challenging project, they have been sharing behind-the-scenes clips along the way. After the break, watch them shoot some scenes with Scud the dog, and another scene where Slinky gets stretched! [Read more…]
Awesome: Minimalist Pixar Posters Exude Character
The creative characters and imaginative worlds of Pixar films provide plenty of opportunity for artists to create something special. Wonchan Lee has done just that, designing minimalist posters for several characters from films such as Up, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story, and The Incredibles. Even better is that these posters are on sale on Lee’s website. Check out the 10 awesome posters after the jump! [Read more…]
Awesome: Fan Creates Concept Art For ‘The Incredibles 2’
Ever since Brad Bird directed The Incredibles, there have been fans begging him and the animation studio for a sequel. In interviews for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (which was a good film with great action set pieces if you haven’t seen it), Bird said he has not had much time to think about an Incredibles sequel but wouldn’t be opposed to making it. Well, a fan by the name of Edwin Rhemrev has gone ahead and created some concept art for his vision of The Incredibles 2 (thanks to Animatie Blog for the heads up), and it looks kind of awesome. Take a look at his cool artwork after the jump! [Read more…]
Awesome: Luxo, Jr. Costume
The smell of Halloween is in the air, with many people still scrambling to put together a costume that will have others talking. Pixar characters have long been popular choices among costume designers. There is no shortage of characters to pick from – Woody, Buzz, Mr. Incredible, Nemo, Luxo, Jr., Carl and Ellie. Wait…Luxo, Jr.? That’s right. Video of a Luxo, Jr. costume from last year has surfaced (courtesy of Cartoon Brew), and it’s kind of awesome. Check out the video here! [Read more…]
Awesome: Toy Story Short Made Using Real-Life Toys
Mattel and Disney have teamed up to create a new Toy Story short, but not the kind we are used to seeing from Disney/Pixar. This short was created using the “Toy Story: Space Mission” toys that were recently released. One of the greatest things the “toymation video short” has going for it is that a child does all the voices for the characters, including that of Buzz, Woody, and Zurg. Similar to Andy in the Toy Story feature films, this takes us inside the mind of a child and exposes us to his imagination. Take a look at the video here and learn some cool facts on how the video was made! [Read more…]
