Until 2014, Pixar had released a feature film every year for eight straight years. For several years during that run, the studio even flirted with releasing two films in a year, demonstrating the growth in its efficiency, so the chance of not releasing any features in a given year seemed to be unthinkable. However, the unthinkable occurred when The Good Dinosaur was delayed about 18 months, leaving 2014 as the first time in a good while that Pixar was absent, at least on the big screen. Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with director Peter Sohn to discuss the challenges the film faced and what it’s like to be vulnerable when millions of people are watching. Read about our discussion after the break. [Read more…]
‘The Good Dinosaur’ Gets An All-New Voice Cast
The reason why Pixar did not have a feature film to release in 2014 was because the studio decided to delay The Good Dinosaur into late 2015 in order to polish the film’s story. Although the premise has not changed – it remains a film that takes place in a world where the asteroid never killed off the dinosaurs – there have been many shifts in the story. Now, we have come to discover that Pixar has recast almost every role. Find out which actors have joined the film after the break! [Read more…]
First Look: ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Teaser Trailer And Poster Are Stunning
Much of the conversation surrounding Pixar this year has revolved around Inside Out, the studio’s latest majestic feature film (I saw it last week, and it is brilliant), which is set for release in June. However, this is the first year that Pixar is releasing two films, as The Good Dinosaur is headed to theaters in November. The dinosaur film has been reworked extensively in the past few years, accounting for why it was delayed from its scheduled release date last year. Today, we get our first extended look at the film in its current state in a teaser trailer and poster which you can take a look at after the break! [Read more…]
Pixar Reveals ‘Finding Dory’ and ‘Good Dinosaur’ Details At Cannes
Cannes has been quite a whirlwind adventure for Pixar this year, as the studio’s upcoming film, Pete Docter’s Inside Out, enjoyed its world premiere at the annual French festival and saw heaps of praise thrown upon it. With two new Pixar films after Inside Out expected in the next year, Pixar’s CCO John Lasseter took the opportunity at Cannes to share more details about the studio’s upcoming slate. After the break, read what he had to say about The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, and even Toy Story 4! [Read more…]
‘The Good Dinosaur’ Gets New Logo And Stunning Concept Art
With all the excitement about Pixar’s June 2015 film, Inside Out, it may be easy to forget that the studio has another film that will be released during the calendar year – The Good Dinosaur. The dinosaur film was pushed back from its original 2014 release date to undergo major story changes, but now it seems to be sailing smoothly towards its late 2015 release date. In a preview of its upcoming films, Disney sent out a press kit for 2015, in which a new logo and concept art for the film were revealed. Take a peek at them after the break! [Read more…]
The Good Dinosaur’s New Director Talks Film’s Major Story Changes
Following the removal of Bob Peterson from the lead director position on Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, changes to the film’s story were expected. After all, when Brad Bird took over Ratatouille and Mark Andrews sprang onto Brave, they not only brought new leadership to their films – they also led the way for a shift in the films’ plot. Peter Sohn, who was originally announced as the co-director on The Good Dinosaur, eventually took over and has introduced significant changes to the story that Peterson developed. Find more details of what you can expect after the break! [Read more…]
Pixar Has Apparently “Completely Reimagined” ‘The Good Dinosaur’
Last August, we found out that director Bob Peterson had been taken off The Good Dinosaur after the film apparently hit creative difficulties. A group of Pixar directors including Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), Mark Andrews (Brave), John Lasseter (Toy Story), and the film’s original co-director Pete Sohn took over. We still do not know who took over as lead director (if anyone did, that is), but we hear that the film’s story has been overhauled. Find more details after the break! [Read more…]
Confirmed: ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Poster Was Not Released By Disney/Pixar
On Saturday, many woke up to the news that a new poster for The Good Dinosaur had been released. However, things just did not add up. As I pointed out when we posted the image, it would be questionable for Disney/Pixar to release a poster for a film two years down the line when the film next in line (Inside Out) still had not had a poster released. Studios tend to work in an orderly fashion, and promoting film number two before number one would be bizarre. Additionally, the website listed on the poster is not live, making it obvious that the poster was not meant to be released – not yet at least. Today, we have confirmation that the poster was not released by Pixar.
Teaser Poster For ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Leaks Out
Last month, Pixar delayed the release of The Good Dinosaur by approximately 18 months, leaving 2014 without any feature film from the studio. The announcement of the significant delay came eight months before the film was due in theaters, which must have left other units within Disney and Pixar, like their consumer products divisions, scrambling. New plans had to be developed in how the film would be marketed, and when new products and tie-ins would appear. A new teaser poster for the film is now making the rounds online, and it gives us a great look at the main characters of the film. Take a look after the break!
‘The Good Dinosaur’ Pushed To 2015, No Pixar Film In 2014
Since 2006, it has been a given that we would see a Pixar film released during the summer season every year. The first indication that this streak was at risk of ending arrived with the news that The Good Dinosaur director Bob Peterson had been taken off the project. The film, which was scheduled to arrive in May 2014, was taken over by a collection of Pixar veterans such as John Lasseter and Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich, but no replacement director was named. For an animated film that was less than one year away, it signaled significant trouble. Today, we have received confirmation that The Good Dinosaur is indeed being delayed into 2015, leaving next year as the first without a Pixar feature film in eight years.
