When Pixar Pier opened in 2018, there were several attractions that had been re-themed to fit various Pixar films – California Screamin’ became the Incredicoaster and Mickey’s Fun Wheel turned into the Pixar Pal-A-Round. One area of Pixar Pier, though, remained unfinished. The Inside Out neighborhood awaited its attraction, which was not set to open until this year. We now have a timeframe on when it will debut – this summer!
The attraction is called Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, and like its brethren within the land, it is taking a ride system that was previously created for another attraction. A Bug’s Land closed last year, which meant that a number of rides within Disney California Adventure aimed at the youngest of guests were no more. However, one of the attractions was saved and work was put in by the Imagineers to turn it into an Inside Out attraction. Flik’s Flyers had guests sit inside a vehicle that rose into the air and then spun around a centerpiece. The time for Flik’s Flyers has come to an end, but its legacy will live on in Emotional Whirlwind.
Disney announced last week that Emotional Whirlwind would open this summer in California Adventure. The attraction, Disney says, will feature eight vehicles called “Memory Movers” and you will “find yourself surrounded by vibrant shelves packed with glowing recollections.” I am not sure of the visual from that description, but the shelves may be referring to the wall of memory orbs seen in the concept art above.
Disney also released a first look at some attraction posters that were created to celebrate the ride and the world of Inside Out. Take a look at all of the posters that were shared below. (Note: Disney has not yet shared high-resolution images of these posters. When we get the hi-res images, I’ll post them here.)
We do not have a specific opening date but the attraction should be open before September in Disney California Adventure.
