Coco is the first film from director Lee Unkrich since Toy Story 3, which was released in 2010. Coco is the director’s first chance at tackling an original story at the studio, which has many excited, as audiences were wowed by the raw emotion and intensity that was present in Toy Story 3, especially in the film’s third act. Today, we get our first in-depth look at Coco, as the first trailer has been unveiled – watch it after the break.
The film tells the story of young Miguel, who yearns to become a musician. The story was inspired by the holiday of Dia de los Muertos, which celebrates those who have died. Traditionally, the event begins on Halloween and runs for a few days. Unkrich and his team have been adamant about their wanting to respect Mexican culture, stating that they want to share the beauty and vibrancy that is often seen during the holiday. The film will definitely be colorful if the teaser trailer, which was released this morning, is any indication.
