Preview: Limited Edition Pixar Posters Coming From Mondo

March 3, 2014 by Samad Rizvi Leave a Comment

Mondo has become the face of the movement to create limited-edition posters of films. Designing great posters requires the ability to tell a short story about what viewers can expect through a limited amount of space. Setting out to develop posters for classic films, when millions have seen them and have grown fond of them, is not as easy as it sounds, but Mondo has quite a number of talented and creative artists by its side. New limited-edition Pixar posters are coming soon, including for WALL-E and Up. Take a peek  at them after the break! (UPDATE: Online sale info has been added at the end of the post!)

Mondo has released a few Pixar posters in the past, and given their limited nature, they sold out minutes (if not quicker). Disney’s Oh My Disney! blog has teamed up with Mondo to create posters based on both Disney and Pixar films. The posters will be on display at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas in an exhibit called “Nothing’s Impossible,” reflecting the determination seen on screen by the animated characters.

In addition to the WALL-E poster above, artist Kevin Tong has designed the Up poster below. If I know Pixar fans, they are scrambling to figure out a way to get their hands on the beautiful posters. Even better is the “flying aircraft” theme seen in the two posters, which means they would look incredible sitting right by one another:

UPDATE (3/4): EW debuted a first look at The Incredibles Mondo poster by artist Tom Whalen:

UPDATE (3/6): Germain Lussier from /Film gave us a heads up about some more posters. The Austin Chronicle has given us a glimpse at a few more, which include two Pixar ones – Finding Nemo (art by Tom Whalen), and another one for The Incredibles (Mike Mitchell):

The reveals are not done yet! Stay tuned for even more poster reveals tomorrow, opening day of the gallery!

UPDATE (3/7): /Film has revealed yet a few more Pixar posters, and they are incredible. The Ratatouille posters by Aaron Horkey are visually stunning! Also revealed are the companion headshot posters that were hinted at in yesterday’s glimpse – Carl from Up and Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles (art by Mike Mitchell). Finally, artist Tom Whalen’s gorgeous Finding Nemo poster, also revealed preliminarily yesterday, can be seen. View them below:

The gallery at the SXSW Festival is now open! Posters that remain available after the show will be put up for sale online, so there is hope for you yet if you cannot make it to Austin this weekend. Visit The Disney Times for a look at the complete collection of Disney posters in the gallery!

UPDATE (3/10): In Mondo’s newsletter, the company announced that the remaining posters from the show would go on sale tomorrow, March 11th, at random times, which will be announced by @MondoNews on Twitter – so make sure to follow it if you have hopes of purchasing any of the prints. We do not yet have confirmation on which of the individual prints sold out, or how many of the remaining posters there are, so we shall find out tomorrow. Mondo’s posters have often sold out in less than a minute online, so best of luck!

Their announcement in the newsletter is below:

Tomorrow, we will be releasing ALL remaining posters from our recent gallery show, “Nothing’s Impossible,” with OMD.

We would like to sincerely thank everybody who have been able to make it out and visit the gallery in person. It’s been amazing to see the response to the show and we can’t thank you all enough. OMD posted a great recap on their blog which you can see HERE.

Please follow us on Twitter for the on sale announcement. These posters will be available online at random times on Tuesday, March 11th.
