Just a few days after posting an article that shared images of this year’s Best Picture nominees featuring Pixar characters, we have another Internet-developed sensation for you. Jon Negroni, famous for his extensive “Pixar Theory,” which posited that every film from the animation studio took place in the same world, has written about another “connection” which theorizes that in the Toy Story films, Andy’s mother is actually Jessie’s previous owner who abandoned her.
According to Negroni, Andy’s mom, who is known to us as simply Mrs. Davis, could be the Emily who left Jessie in a box on the side of the road (add the Sarah McLachlan song “When She Loved Me” and you have the result of many of us shedding more tears than we are willing to admit). His biggest form of “evidence” comes from the fact that the hat Andy wears looks quite a bit like the hat seen in Emily’s room in the Toy Story 2 flashback sequence. It is true that the hat bears a striking resemblance to, not Woody’s, but Jessie’s hat (except for the white stripe missing from Andy’s hat, that is).
Whether you fall on the side that calls a claim like this ridiculous or genius, there is no doubt that there is nobody more passionate about making connections that were perhaps never there in the Pixar universe than Negroni. These theories are notable for their long reaches for evidence, which seems to have delighted many. Although, for each form of evidence, there are several that disprove it (e.g. neither Andy’s mom, nor Jessie seem to remember each other). Enjoy it for what it is!
