This month’s PixArt feature comes to us from the super-talented California artist Jackie Williams. Jackie does some fantastic character-based illustrations and designs – many of which come from the world of pop-culture. This monster of a mash-up finds Mike, Sulley and Boo as the characters from Akira Toriyama’s Dr. Slump. Like most of her work, it’s full of energy and personality. Make sure to check out Jackie’s websites to see more of her great work. Read on for more about her in her own words!

I currently live in…
Northern California, Fairfield/Vacaville area. It’s pretty quiet.
I consider my hometown to be…
A really difficult question. I really miss San Jose since I used to go to school down there – good food, the culture, and my old friends.
My Favorite Pixar Movie is …
Up. I really enjoyed the Married Life montage sequence – it’s very touching.
My Favorite Pixar character:
Going from my favorite movie, I have to say Dug from UP. He’s adorable. Jessie from the Toy Story films is a close second.
Tell us about your piece:
Well, I decided to do a little crossover/take on Akira Toriyama’s Dr. Slump with Mike, Sully and Boo. It’s one of my favorite anime series, with some wacky adventures. 🙂 Plus, it has some whimsy elements which I really like.
Who/What inspires you?
One of my inspirations is of course Japanese anime or pop culture. I just love the vibrant colors and unique mascot character designs, fashion designs. My very first anime was, of course, Sailor Moon when I was a kid. Later on, I was introduced to Studio Ghibli films and love them. Also, western animation from Disney and Pixar and various illustrators.
Recommend something, anything to our readers:
Chris Oatley and Stephen Silver – they give a lot of great advice, especially when it comes to encouraging oneself to keep on going to pursue your goal. I own Stephen’s “Passion for Life” book which is full of inspirational quotes and beautiful drawings. I highly recommend watching the film Kiki’s Delivery Service since there’s a good message in that film.
Shameless self-‐promotion:
My work is currently featured at LTD. Gallery‘s “CATZs” show and I just recently submitted to a Dark Mascot show hosted by Steve Minty which just opened. I already emailed a couple of places to see if they were accepting any new works for future shows. I’ve got a couple of projects: a fashion themed zine, some illustration series and a 2D game/webcomic project which I’m hoping to get off the ground. I might be attending Wondercon. I’m also available for work.
