There are a bevy of films in the Pixar catalog that are considered “instant classics,” from Up, to WALL-E, to all of the Toy Story films. Repeat viewings are a must to soak in the gorgeous visuals and the multi-layered story lines. Adding the films to a home theater library is guaranteed to bring the overall quality of said library up. Have you resisted upgrading your DVD library of Pixar films to Blu-ray? Or are you a collector of beautiful box sets? Next week, Disney/Pixar is releasing an insanely cool box set that may be perfect for you.
Given that the Pixar feature film catalog has grown to 14, Disney could have easily chosen a select number of Pixar’s films to include in a “best of” box set. Lucky for us, a decision was made to package together every last one. Don’t worry – the shorts are all here too! Amazon

Although it appears that the box set is more or less a repackaging of the individual sets produced for the Pixar feature films and shorts, the designers seemed to have pulled off a fantastic theme. When you first pop open the set, which is adorned with the Luxo, Jr. ball we have seen in many of the studio’s films, you are greeted with the spines of each individual collection, title and even the year of release slapped on to provide a stronger sense of order, a must for collectors. Further, each set features a close-up of a character, and aside from the Disney/Pixar logo, there is no text covering up the beautiful design.
What is included in the box set? Simply every feature film and short that Pixar has released through this year. The only omissions are the two productions which have not yet made it to home release – last year’s Toy Story PartySaurus Rex short and the Toy Story OF TERROR! Halloween special which just debuted on television last month. There are a stated 30 hours of extras on the set, but there do not appear to be any exclusive extras for this collection, although Mater’s Tall Tales is available on Blu-ray, here, for the first time. Also included is a large book, essentially a table of contents for the set, listing film credits and bonus features.
The collection is priced at $335.99, but Amazon is listing it for 30% off, bringing it to a cool $235.19. That may be a steep price to pay, but considering that you get practically every project that Pixar has worked on for almost 30 years, along with hours upon hours of bonus features, this really is the perfect set for the ultimate fan. And with the holidays right around the corner, it may just leap to the top of some wish lists.
The “Disney Pixar Complete Collection” 22-Disc Blu-ray Box Set is scheduled for release on November 19th. You can pre-order it on Amazon now.
(UPDATE 1: As pointed out in the comments below, the set is listed as Region 2, which means it will not work in U.S. Blu-ray players. We await further information about the upcoming set.)
(UPDATE 2: Amazon seems to have taken down its own listing of the set, which confirms that they mistakenly listed it as shipping within the United States. It was puzzling to see the retailer list a set for shipping in the U.S. when it was not meant for the North American market. Hopefully, a set similar to this design will see release stateside in the coming future.)
