Disney/Pixar first announced The Good Dinosaur (which was untitled at that moment) at the D23 Expo in 2011, as director Bob Peterson briefly spoke about the premise, discussed what inspired him to develop the idea, and showed a single gorgeous piece of concept art. There has been nothing else officially released, aside from the film’s title. Pixar has usually included a teaser trailer of its next film while its current film plays in theaters, but the studio’s dinosaur film did not follow in that tradition. The 2013 iteration of the D23 Expo is less than one month away, and now we have received word that The Good Dinosaur will be previewed in some form. Find more details after the break!
Last year, the Expo held a gargantuan panel on Saturday morning, sharing details about Pixar films, Disney animated and live-action films, as well as The Avengers. The super-sized panel ran about 2 1/2 hours, already a significant amount of time. Wisely, a decision has been made this year to split up the live-action and animated films into two separate panels. The animation panel will be held on Friday, August 9th, and will officially preview Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, Disney Animation’s Frozen, as well as feature a screening of Get A Horse!, Disney’s new Mickey Mouse short which celebrates classic shorts such as Steamboat Willie. There will likely be surprises in store, and I would be surprised if we do not hear about other Pixar and Disney Animation films currently in development. Specifically, I expect director Pete Docter to be there to further discuss Inside Out, and maybe even Andrew Stanton to speak about Finding Dory.
Given that these panels are easily the biggest at the convention, officials have added a 2,000 person overflow room for those who do not make it into the 4,000 seat Arena. Lines to get into the panel will be long, so those who are attending are advised to get in line early! Friday’s panel is scheduled to start at 10:00 am.
On Saturday, the live-action panel will cover several Disney and Marvel films, including Tomorrowland, which Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) is directing for Walt Disney Motion Pictures.
