Watch: ‘Monsters University’ Japanese Trailer Reveals Much More

March 8, 2013 by Samad Rizvi 1 Comment

The trailers and ads that Disney/Pixar releases for its films in North America deliberately keep more of the film’s plot hidden from audiences. The international trailers, though, are known for being more revealing in the hopes that additional interest is generated in the increasingly important markets overseas. A new Monsters University trailer was recently released for the Japanese market and it gives away far more than its North American counterpart. Take a look at it, if you dare, after the break!

Monsters University - Mike Arrives HD

While the trailer is dubbed in Japanese (via Upcoming Pixar), it is not difficult to grasp what is going on, plot-wise. It feels like the trailer gives away at least the first half of the film, so keep that in mind when deciding whether or not you want to watch it below.

Update: It looks like this trailer gives away much of the film’s plot (something we have come to expect from trailers from other movie studios). Be aware of that if you decide to watch it.

It appears that the film may begin with a prologue featuring a significantly younger version of main character Mike Wazowski, which Brave similarly demonstrated last summer with wee Merida. Boo and young Merida now have young Mike to compete with on the adorable meter. The trailer also confirms that the Monsters, Inc. factory from the original film will play an important role in the prequel as well.

Monsters University arrives in North American theaters on June 21.
