The clever viral marketing campaign for Monsters University began with the launch of a website dedicated to the university. It provides a history of the school since its inception in the year 1313, lists school news and events, and lays out a campus map among many other details that are usually found on university websites. A commercial for the school recently debuted, and it once again effectively captures what we have come to expect from a university. Watch the commercial in HD after the break!
The commercial has been playing with Monsters, Inc. 3D in theaters for the past two weeks. It also played during today’s Rose Bowl game before being released on YouTube. Check out the ad, entitled “Monsters University – Imagine You at MU,” below:
I am loving what we have seen so far of this campaign. I also hear that there are many more clever things to come in the next few months before the film’s release in June.
The film’s official synopsis:
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.
Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”). The film opens in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
