Before Pixar’s focus turned to feature films, the studio mastered the art of the short. Back in the 1980s, animation technology was far more limited than it is now, but John Lasseter and company were still able to blow audiences away with revolutionary computer animation but more important than that, stories with heart. After the release of Pixar Shorts Volume 1 , which collected such memorable shorts as Luxo, Jr., Tin Toy, and For The Birds on DVD and Blu-ray, many have been anticipating a Volume 2. The time is now, as the Blu-ray and DVD for the second volume has just gone up for pre-order!
Stitch Kingdom has discovered that in addition to including the shorts that Pixar has produced after the release of Volume 1 (La Luna, Day & Night, Presto, etc.), we can also expect to see student films that were made by Lasseter, Pete Docter, and Andrew Stanton before they arrived at Pixar. Additionally, the site reports that the set “will contain extras that delve into how much of Pixar’s talent got their start.”
That is a great way at adding additional value, as the shorts themselves are only about five to seven minutes long. Yes, the quality of the shorts is fantastic, and it is a collector’s dream to have the shorts on hand in the high-definition format, but Blu-ray discs have the potential to hold a great deal of content. Having the chance to own, study, and admire the student films that Lasseter, Docter, and Stanton created is an amazing opportunity.
We have to wait for the official press release to see the full list of shorts and extras that will be included, but there is little chance that a collector would not want to add the set to his or her collection.
