New ‘Toy Story’ Short ‘Partysaurus Rex’ Revealed

August 9, 2012 by Samad Rizvi 6 Comments

When Toy Story 3 came to an end (spoiler alert!), Andy’s story was finished as he donated his toys to the adorable Bonnie. Pixar has found a way to continue to tell stories involving Buzz, Woody, Barbie, Ken, and the rest of the gang without stepping on the toes of the fantastic trilogy – they have been releasing Toy Story Toons, shorts starring the lovable toys. Attached to Pixar and Disney films, we have already seen two, and now a third has been officially announced. Take a look at the first images and find out the first details of Toy Story: Partysaurus Rex after the break!

Pixar announced the short through EW, which identified the director of the short as Mark Walsh, an animator who has been working with the animation studio since A Bug’s Life. This is Walsh’s first stab at directing for Pixar, another example of the studio ushering in new directors to work with shorts, perhaps preparing them for an easier transition to feature films.

The story revolves around Rex, a Toy Story supporting character who suffers from anxiety that stems from his inability to scare others, a characteristic for which T-Rex’s are widely known. In the short, he is taken into a bath by his new owner Bonnie, and hilarity will surely ensue. Given the party-like atmosphere underwater in the bathtub, Pixar recruited BT, an artist widely known for his work in the electronic genre of music – looks like a bubbly rave in that image above.

As EW points out, there is already a Pixar easter egg that can be seen – that toilet seat cover above looks suspiciously like it belonged to Monsters, Inc.‘s Sulley at one point.

Disney has already prepped a line of toys to tie into the short, which I stumbled upon at the Holiday Gift Preview event last month.

Toy Story: Partysaurus Rex debuts in theaters with Finding Nemo 3D on September 14 – as if we needed another reason to check out the Pixar re-release next month.

Check out EW for the complete story.

Will you be heading to the Partysaurus Rex/Finding Nemo 3D double feature in September?
