La Luna has been receiving an extraordinary amount of attention in the awards sector for its charming visuals and plot. It was recently shortlisted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for an Oscar in the “Best Animated Short” category, and it hasn’t even seen wide release yet (it is coming to theatres nationwide with Brave on June 22). The beautiful short is all set to become one of the most beloved Pixar shorts (it’s that good), so there will surely be shoppers looking to own a piece of the film. As luck would have it, they will have the chance – a La Luna hardcover will be making its way into bookstores later this year.
Director Enrico Casarosa has been tweeting about his progress on the book, for which he provided watercolor illustrations. Today, he shared a picture of the cover, and you guessed it, it is gorgeous. It is a watercolor recreation of the La Luna poster:
Amazon has a brief description of the book, which is set to be published by Disney Press:
La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise is in store for the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Or will he be able to find his own way? This charming picture book is filled with incredible illustrations, and its unique story based on the Disney*Pixar short film is sure to delight.
The 40-page book will likely be targeted to young readers, but that doesn’t mean this will be some lame children’s book. New watercolor illustrations (by the director, no less) that will only be found here means this will probably be a worthy addition to any art book collector’s library.
Amazon has the book’s release date currently set at May 15, but that can always change. Look for it around the release of La Luna later this year.
