This could very well be the perfect mash-up – Monsters, Inc. meets Day and Night! Thank Canadian artist Ridd Sorensen for this delightful piece. So many wonderful little details. We were thrilled when Ridd agreed to submit something to our little gallery and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Surely you know his work – but if by chance you don’t, you’re in for a real treat. Read on for more about the artist in his own words and find out where you can see more of his great work. We sincerely thank Ridd for his time, talent and effort on this wonderful contribution!

Tell us about your piece:
Day & Night was such an amazing film to me in every way, so I knew I had to do a piece involving Teddy Newton’s fantastic characters. Originally I was going to do kind of a scarier Day & Night mash-up with Marlin, Dory and the Anglerfish from Finding Nemo, and I even got so far as doing a rough for it. Ultimately though, I couldn’t get the composition to work to my liking so I decided on mashing it up with something a little more light and charming – Boo and Sully from Monsters, Inc.. I kind of liked the idea of Day and Boo chilling out while their BFFs Night and Sully sneak up to surprise them. OH – and I know the whole Day & Night being ‘indoors’ thing doesn’t really make sense according to the world that’s been established for them, but I’m taking some artistic license here so cut me some slack!

Recommend something, anything to our readers:
Street art! Seriously – hit the streets and alleys in your city or a big city nearby and check it out. It’s not just gang tags and sloppy graffiti – there are a ton of incredible pieces to draw inspiration from. I’m out there almost every day taking pictures of it, and I find it so inspirational. I’ve gotten a bunch of ideas from the stuff I see out there. I really believe it’s one of the last completely honest and pure art forms.

Also, I’m working on a children’s book right now called ‘Freddy the Firekid’. Look for it soon!
Thanks for the awesome piece, Ridd!
