Video of the Day: The Sounds of WALL-E

July 31, 2011 by Samad Rizvi Leave a Comment

When the main character of your film does not say anything other than “WALL-E” and “Eva,” other aspects of the film have to step up to the plate. Even though WALL-E may not say much, many people would tell you that he is still one of Pixar’s greatest characters. With the lack of speech, his other sounds and the other sounds around him become that much more important. For a film that required an expert in sound, who did Pixar bring in? – Ben Burtt, the man who is essentially the father of R2-D2. The sound genius talks about creating sound for a brand new world. Take a trip behind the scenes of WALL-E and watch how the sound for the film came together.

Sure, the story is what knocks this film out of the park. However, without the sounds, it would not be as great as it turned out to be. Can you imagine saying “WALL-E” in a manner different from that heard in the film? Neither can I.
