Many are fascinated by Pixar’s 2012 film, Brave, as it is the studio’s first film where the protagonist of the story is a female. Not only that, but it is the first fantasy film to come out of the Emeryville-based studio. The teaser trailer and the concept art that have been displayed show off a darker tone than we have gotten from other films such as Monsters, Inc. and Ratatouille. Plot details have been scarce – we know that Princess Merida unleashes a curse upon her kingdom and she must set things right. Director Mark Andrews spoke with The Daily Record about the film, and he revealed a few more details about the film’s story. Read on but beware of possible spoilers (at least for those who want to know nothing about the plot), as Disney/Pixar has not released some of these details.
The great article includes many quotes from Andrews, focusing on the recreation of Scotland and the theme of the story. Here are a few choice quotes:
It’s all about the relationship between a mother and daughter, and how this young woman has problems with her mother.
When she has a problem with her mother over marriage, she gets a magic spell to try to stop her mother bothering her with the suitor business.
But it actually changes her mother into a bear.
Looks like that will be the full premise of the film. Now we know where the original title of the film, The Bear and the Bow, came from. Everything we hear about this film continues to raise our excitement meter!
As if we had any doubt how much the beautiful land of Scotland will play into Brave, “Mark Andrews says the biggest star of the movie will be Scotland itself.” Sounds good to us!
Thanks to Courtney for the tip.
