Brad Bird has stayed within the animated film world for much of his life, directing The Iron Giant before taking up a large role at Pixar and directing The Incredibles and Ratatouille. Similar to fellow Pixar director Andrew Stanton, who is directing John Carter for Disney, the incredibly smart Bird is venturing into live-action for the first time and we are excited to see how it turns out. Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol might not be a Pixar film, but with Bird at the helm, we expect a unique and clever take on the franchise. Today, Paramount unveiled the first trailer for the film, which runs a bit under 2:30. Take a look at the HD trailer here!
The official synopsis for the film follows:
Director Brad Bird and Producer J.J. Abrams bring us the action packed, entertainment event of the holiday season with MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL.
The new film in the series, which has grossed $2 billion dollars worldwide, will feature a new team: Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg.
This is not just another mission.
The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in a global terrorist bombing plot. Ghost Protocol is initiated and Ethan Hunt and his rogue new team must go undercover to clear their organization’s name. No help, no contact, off the grid. You have never seen a mission grittier and more intense than this.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL is in theatres and IMAX December 2011.
Additionally, here are a few images from the film that showcase the look and design of some of the sets that Bird has utilized to bring his vision to the screen:
