We have learned that the Cars 2 bathroom clip we shared with you earlier today (part of two clips we unveiled) features a voice of a Pixar employee. The voice of the pink car that functions as the on-screen toilet attendant is none other than Pixar character technical director Sonoko Konishi. She also had a voice role as the pink Japanese reporter car in the original Cars. That is a lot of pink for Konishi! Read on for a brief look at how she came to Pixar and just how many films she has worked on during her time at the studio.
Konishi grew up in Musashino City in Tokyo, Japan, where she lived until she was 17 years old. She then moved to the United States where she attended the School of Art Institute of Chicago and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Technology.
After coming to Pixar, she worked on Character Modeling and Articulation on A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Rataouille, Up and Toy Story 3. (Hold on while we catch our breath.) That means she has been at the studio since 1994!
She also had quite the amazing costume at Pixar’s annual costume contest last Halloween:
A Mr. Pricklepants costume? Doesn’t get much better than that!
Pixar employees often provide voices for films while they are in production and sometimes they make it into the completed film. Kudos to Sonoko Konishi for the extensive Pixar résumé and the fine acting!
