Chronicle Officially Announces New Pixar Color Script Art Book

May 19, 2011 by Samad Rizvi Leave a Comment

Chronicle Books updated its website to display its brand new collaboration with Pixar – a book collecting the color scripts that were put together for each of the studio’s films. While I first heard about the book’s existence last year, “The Art of Pixar: The Complete Color Scripts and Select Art From 25 Years of Animation” first showed up on Amazon a few months ago, confirming that Chronicle and Pixar would be celebrating the famed animation studio’s 25th Anniversary in style. Read on for a look at the cover of the book, as well as the official product description.

Below is the cover that Chronicle has accompanying the book listing. It is important to note that book covers from the company often change before they hit retail. However, this cover is looking mighty fine currently, so we would not mind at all if this is the final cover. Take a look:

Product Description:

Over the past 25 years, Pixar’s team of artists, writers, and directors have shaped the world of contemporary animation with their feature films and shorts. From classics such as Toy Story and A Bug’s Life to recent masterpieces such as Up, Toy Story 3, and Cars 2, this comprehensive collection offers a behind-the-scenes tour of every Pixar film to date. Featuring a foreword by Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter, the complete color scripts for every film—published in full for the first time—as well as stunning visual development art, The Art of Pixar is a treasure trove of rare artwork and an essential addition to the library of animation fans and Pixar enthusiasts.

Amid Amidi is the co-founder of the popular animation blog CartoonBrew.com and publisher and editor of the magazine Animation Blast. He is also the author of Cartoon Modern. John Lasseter is a two-time Academy Award–winning director and the chief creative officer at Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.

While Amid Amidi is listed as the author of the book, he has stated that there will not be much actual text alongside the artwork:

The book is almost entirely artwork, which is exactly as it should be since it’s called The Art of Pixar. It’ll be all kinds of classy.

Given the stunningly beautiful art books that Chronicle Books and Pixar have assembled in the past, this new 320-page hardcover will no doubt be another must-have. It is currently available for pre-order through Chronicle as well as Amazon.

“The Art of Pixar: The Complete Color Scripts and Select Art From 25 Years of Animation” is due for release in November (according to Amazon) for a MSRP of $50, though you will likely be able to find it at a discount online.
