Tapbots has been taking the iOS developer community by storm, as they have become known for the stunning visual aspect and ease of use of their iPhone and iPod Touch apps. Most recently, the company has released Tweetbot, a new Twitter app which in a matter of a few days has already garnered much praise from critics and users. Looking to create “utility robot” apps, the team of Paul and Mark have cited the famous robots of WALL-E as a clear influence.
The History section of Tapbots’ official website notes:
After a few initial sketch ideas of a futuristic weight scale, we noticed the basic shapes reminded us of Eve from Wall·e. We liked the idea of robots so our subsequent sketches and design prototypes took more cues from the movie. Then it finally hit us. What if each of our apps were a different robot? They could feel like part of the same family, but be unique in their own way based on the task they need to perform…a lot like the robots in Wall·e. And that’s how Tapbots was born.
Take a look at the icons from the apps below and note the similarities to EVE and some of the other sleek robots from WALL-E:
Tweetbot is an app you must at least take a look at if you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, as we can confirm that it truly is remarkably easy to use, has a beautiful user interface, and is just plain fun to spend time with.
The influence of the WALL-E robots is a great indication that the film, which has consistently been cited as one of the best Pixar films (TIME actually named it the best film of the past decade), has had a lasting effect on not only moviebuffs but the creative community as well.
