Monsters University Pushed Back To June 2013

April 4, 2011 by Samad Rizvi 2 Comments

Box Office Mojo, which has made announcements of release date changes rather often, shared that the prequel film to Monsters, Inc., Monsters University, has been pushed back from November, 2012 to June, 2013. Next year would have been the first time that Disney/Pixar was set to release two feature films in one year, an exciting feat. The second release date change for the film (it was originally pushed up a few weeks) does not mean the film is headed for a disaster, as the extra time likely gives the studio more time to maintain the quality of film that audiences around the world have come to respect.

The release date change for the film continues the stretch of one feature film per year for the studio, so this is not a huge change. If anything, it eases the mind knowing that Pixar would rather extend the time of work spent on the film, rather than rushing it out to meet an announced release date. Releasing a sub-par film would be far more damaging than a few months more of waiting.

The official title of the film, Monsters University, had just been announced at CinemaCon. Additionally, we were one of the first to report that Dan Scanlon would be directing the upcoming film. This was a huge week for the film that had not had many formal announcements before now, so it seemed that the film was sailing along. However, as said above the change in release date just means that we will be waiting the standard amount of time to hopefully view another Pixar instant-classic.

Monsters University is now set to debut in theaters on June 21, 2013.
