The Wrap is reporting (and The Pixar Blog has confirmed) that there has been a shift in release date for Brave, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2012. No need to pout too much, as it is only being pushed back by a week. Originally slated to arrive on June 15, 2012, the film is now lighting up movie theaters on June 22.
Release date tweaks are common in the movie industry, especially during the summer movie season, as weekends can be crowded with films fighting for premium spots. There is no reason for the change to raise alarm since it has only been set back by a week. It would have been more worrisome if it was pushed back by several months. In recent years, Disney/Pixar has laid claim to June as their month of choice for the release of their film. The minor change allows Pixar to maintain the consistency of past releases.
Last year Disney announced that Monsters, Inc. 2 would be moved up by two weeks. 2012 is the first year in which two Pixar films are hitting the big screen, so Disney is likely just fine-tuning release dates to allocate the best weekends for both films. We will be getting Monsters, Inc. 2 two weeks earlier and Brave one week later than originally scheduled.
My, how Disney giveth and taketh away! (That was sarcasm, by the way.)
