All the way from Billy’s Bedroom, we give you MIKE WAZOWSKI LIVE! But seriously folks, we’re just crazy about this great image from the artist known as MUD! Check out his site for some more Pixar themed work. He’s got a great poster featuring everybody’s favorite Wilderness Explorer! Read on for more about the artist in his own words…
Artist Information:
Name: Mud! (The name stems from my olden days from when I used to drop crazy flows on the mic. I also used to produce a little for fun, but it’s been a while)
Website: http://idothedirtywork.blogspot.com/
I currently live…in Southern Canada a.k.a. Minnesota.
I consider my hometown to be…Chicago.
My favorite Pixar movie is…
A flippin’ tough question. It changes so often based on my mood, but I’d have to say Ratatouille or The Incredibles with all of the others tied for third.
My favorite Pixar character…
Would have to be (again a tie) – Russell from Up, because he has this adorable innocence about him, and Mike Wazowski. I feel like he and I have a lot in common. Pixar does an amazing job developing a character’s personality and traits down to the smallest details.
About my piece:
I have a background in graphic design and love vintage ads and posters, especially when they’re for fake products or events (thinking about the old Tex Avery “Cars of Tomorrow” and such). So, I created a poster for one of Mike Wazowski’s upcoming performances. That guy gets around. I’m thinking about creating one for one of Flick’s inventions.
Who/What inspires me:
I don’t want to sound like a fanboy, but I have honestly learned a lot from the extras on Pixar’s DVDs. They are chock full of amazing info from the importance of storytelling to their high standards, attention to detail and process. Also I mentioned above, I love the artwork style of the 50s and I’m currently playing through Fallout Vegas right now and that era influences a lot of the look of the game. It’s flippin’ amazing! I’m also generally inspired by talented artists and great thinkers. Also, people like Walt Disney, who was such an amazing visionary. The folks who’ve contributed to this site are flippin’ awesome as well.
Recommend something, anything to our readers:
Well, on my blog I have an ever growing list of people or sites I follow. And in terms of books, I’m not much of a reader, but I really enjoyed Phil Vischer’s “Me, Myself and Bob.” I recently watched The Boys, the story of the Sherman Bros. – very well done.
Anything else you would like to share with us?
I’m actually working on illustrating and writing a book and all of the money will go towards a charity that provides clean water in developing countries. I’m down the home stretch (I’ve got about 4 pages left) so it’s an exciting time. I’m going to print the books myself and sell them online and hopefully I’ll make it to Comic Con in Chicago as well. I’m chronicling the progress here.
