The Office is no stranger to Pixar humor. Most recently, an hour-long episode centered around a guest-starring appearance by everybody’s favorite sheriff, Woody from the Toy Story franchise. The writing on the show made what could have easily been a mere reference into a creative use of the character. Last night, the NBC show had another Pixar reference, albeit a much smaller one. However, it was still hilarious. If you are an avid watcher of the show and have not seen the episode yet, you are welcome to turn around and come back once you have seen the full episode. Read on for the quote and a link to video.
The Set-up:
Erin and Gabe have been playing Scrabble, with the winner getting to choose what film they watch together. Erin has been unable to eke out a win, so the two of them have been watching such horror films as The Shining (which happens to be Lee Unkrich’s favorite movie). Confident in his forthcoming victory, Gabe approaches Erin.

The Breakdown:
Gabe: I picked out our movie. It’s called Suspiria. (Excitedly) It pushes all the boundaries – all the preconceived notions about what horror can be, come crashing down.
Erin: (With some ‘tude) When I win, (smiles) we’re gonna watch WALL-E, where all the boundaries of…(she pauses to finish formulating her answer)…color are pushed.

Short and sweet, but the delivery is what makes the joke. Already looking forward to the next time The Office throws in a Pixar joke, as the writers have shown they know how to do it well.
