Disney/Pixar has formed a partnership with the Australian-based V8 Supercars (akin to NASCAR) to help raise awareness of the studio’s upcoming film, Cars 2. The first of several stages set forth in the agreement includes a life-size version of MACK. Voiced by Pixar ‘good luck charm,’ John Ratzenberger, MACK is an essential part of Lightning McQueen’s crew, as he manages the transportation of the race-car.
Kylie Watson-Wheeler, General Manager of Licensing for Disney, describes the purpose of the deal:
This unique Disney-Pixar Cars Truck Tour brings together the excitement and adrenaline from the big screen to the rack track and will allow families and fans to experience all the fun and excitement of the Cars characters they love and the exhilarating racing atmosphere of the V8 Supercar competition.
Dubbed Disney/Pixar’s CARS Truck Tour 2011, the traveling event features “a number of entertainment zones and themed activity stations.” Essentially, the event focuses on creating a fun environment for families to spend time with each other and characters from the Cars franchise. One of the highlights is likely viewing the huge MACK in person.
A video covering the event was also released:
