Disney/Pixar has released the official full-length trailer for Cars 2. View it below:
UPDATE 1 (4:30 PM) – The Internet has been abuzz today with Sir Michael Caine’s voice (or someone who sounds much like him) in the trailer. The Pixar Blog is reporting that an anonymous source from Pixar has confirmed Caine’s role in the film. Interestingly, Michael Caine’s name did not appear in the official synopsis released yesterday, which is why many have been pleasantly surprised to hear his voice in the trailer today. However, this is not anything new for the animation studio, which tends to stay away from the promotion of celebrity voices that appear in their films. Think back to when Toy Story 3 trailers were hitting theaters. Do you remember seeing the name Michael Keaton anywhere in them?
I personally enjoyed the trailer. It really seems to be pushing the idea that Cars 2 is going to be different from the first film. While I loved the original Cars, in the past many have complained about its slow-simmering plot. Hearing about the global aspect of Cars 2 and the James Bond-like storyline, it looks like the plot will be moving at a quicker pace. It is difficult to note from the trailer where the emotional aspect will come into play, but with Pixar’s track record in that department, I think they’ll have that covered. Since the studio puts together their own trailers, they always been very good about giving audiences the bare minimum of information going into the first viewing. Believe me, there is a LOT we don’t know (including whether we’ll be crying into our 3-D glasses all over again).
We’ll know it all come June 24, 2011!
So, what do you think of the trailer? Are you more excited for Cars 2 after seeing it?
UPDATE 2 (10:00 PM) – A keen reader on fellow blog, Pixar Talk, pointed out that the tags for the trailer that Disney/Pixar posted on YouTube include both Michael Caine and Shutter Island star Emily Mortimer:
The duo actually previously co-starred in the film, Harry Brown, which came out in 2009. I would think their roles in Cars 2 are now as official as can be.
