Toy Story 3 has been enjoyed in many languages across the world, bringing in close to $1 billion worldwide. The film is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on November 2, with three different flavors to choose from. There is now a fourth edition, for Spanish speakers who would prefer to own a Spanish version of Toy Story 3.
The set is essentially the Spanish edition of the 1-disc DVD set already announced. The special features are identical to the English version. The packaging states “Contiene audio en español”, roughly translating to say “Contains Spanish audio”. The set also provides subtitles in Spanish, as well as in English. This means one can listen to the audio in Spanish and read the English subtitles. There are also subtitles available for the special features.
An often asked question is “Well, if the film is in Spanish, what language does Spanish Buzz speak in?”. The answer was given be director Lee Unkrich, on his Formspring page:
In Spain, Spanish Buzz begins speaking Andalusian Spanish, a dialect from southern Spain, home of bull fighting and flamenco dancing. This switch is very funny to Spanish audiences.
With the increase in Spanish speakers in the United States the last 20 years, it is a smart decision for Disney and Pixar to show some love to the non-English speakers. The Spanish version of Toy Story 3 may be more difficult to find as some stores may not carry it, but online stores should make picking it up easier. Right now, it’s available for pre-order on Walmart.com for $16.96. It is also available at Toys “R” Us for $19.99.
It hits DVD on November 2, along with the previously announced sets and the destined-to-be-great trilogy box set.
