Remember when you were younger and you dug through cereal boxes to find that cool toy that was displayed on the package or mailed in enough codes to receive a free figurine? Well, those were the old days. Now, to receive free items in the mail, you can enter codes on promotional websites. Sometimes, though, there is a less advertised method to get the cereal toys. It’s easier, but it isn’t free. Enter: Alien Desk Light.
The Alien Desk Light from the Kellogg’s Toy Story 3 promotion, which normally requires that 8 codes be sent in, can also be bought for $7.99 (which includes shipping and handling). The ‘buy it’ method is hidden behind a few menus, but it is there. The website requires you to register for an account, after which you can begin redeeming codes (or purchase some of the items). On the Great Stuff page, click “view detail” under the displayed items to see the options for attaining them. Only a few of the items include a ‘buy it now’ choice, as the others still require codes. I am not sure how long the items will remain there, as the promotion is ongoing through June 2011 (while supplies last).
I am a huge fan of the Aliens from the Toy Story films, and I was delighted when I saw the light. I received the Alien Desk Light in the mail the other day and opened the packaging to discover that the light comes with a USB cable (to plug into your computer if you’re burning the midnight oil) and batteries to use when you don’t want to plug it in. I personally enjoy the fact that the USB cable is removable, so if you want to just display the Alien with the rest of your Toy Story collectibles (without a big ol’ cord hanging out of him), you can do that as well.
To turn the light on, you press his belt buckle. The light isn’t tremendously bright as it just emanates from the lightbulb inside his head. It is a fun little item that will remind you of the days you wanted cereal only to score the toys.
