This past weekend, Toy Story 3 passed Finding Nemo to become the all-time leader at the box office for Pixar Animation Studios. As of August 8, the North American total stood at over $396 million, with the rest of the world bringing in about $498 million, for a worldwide total of $895 million. During its run in 2003, Finding Nemo accumulated $867 million worldwide.
Over the course of the next week, Pixar’s newest film should cross the $400 million mark in the US and Canada. At its current North American tally, Toy Story 3 is number 16 on the all-time list, and number two in the animation department, behind Shrek 2. While it may be difficult for Toy Story 3 to catch up to Shrek 2‘s total of $441 million in North America, the worldwide total is within reach. Shrek 2 grossed slightly under $920 million worldwide, which Toy Story 3 is rapidly gaining on.
