It’s amazing how iconic Pixar characters have become in such a relatively short amount of time. I was reminded of this when I first saw today’s PixArt piece. Even with just basic shapes and large swatches of bright colors, one can still quickly recognize Buzz and Woody. These wonderfully abstract portraits come to us from artist Pintachan. Based in Spain, this whimsical and prolific freelance illustrator has churned out some really fantastic images and designs for magazines, t-shirts and more. Make sure to visit his website for samples of his professional work. Read on for more about the artist in his own words!
We are thrilled to bring you this visual treat just in time for Halloween. California-based freelance artist wotto has created this wonderfully fun piece featuring Mike and Sulley. We instantly fell in love with wotto’s work and thought he would be the perfect person to create this Halloween-themed image. Check out his site for more fantastic work including some fun characters, apparel designs, animation and more. Our thanks to him for contributing his time and effort. It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of Andrew Kolb‘s work. His images have been featured often on these pages both as a featured artist and in our tributes. We are extremely pleased to welcome him back to PixArt – he has provided us with a wonderful Halloween-themed Monsters image, which features Mike, Sulley, and Boo celebrating the holiday in style. Kolb never disappoints. As always, we are so charmed by his work and sincerely grateful for the contribution. View his fantastic artwork in hi-res after the jump!
Monsters are taking over Pixar for the next year, with the 3D re-release of Monsters, Inc. on track to release in December and the prequel, Monsters University, being completed for its premiere in June next year. Our very own Jerrod Maruyama, who regularly does a fantastic job at working with artists to give us their take on Pixar films and characters, has now himself put together a gorgeous piece of art spotlighting the college versions of Mike and Sulley. Take a look at his ridiculously cute interpretation after the break!
We are so thrilled to feature artist Phillip Light in this month’s PixArt spotlight. This super-talented art student creates some absolutely stunning character designs. Head on over to his blog to see what I mean. Phillip is definitely one to keep an eye on – we see a bright future up ahead for him. Take one look at the emotions conveyed on the character’s faces in his PixArt piece and you may begin to see why. After the break, read more about him in his own words!
I had the extreme pleasure of meeting artist Dan Jones this past June. Dan is from Animation Collaborative, located right across the street from Pixar’s studios in Emeryville, CA. This fantastic resource offers students an opportunity to learn from professionals currently working in the field of animation. Their Instructors have a variety of backgrounds, having worked at Pixar, Dreamworks, Warner Bros., Sony, Disney and BlueSky. Students receive critique and feedback on how to raise the quality of their work to a professional level. Dan, who is a student at the animation school, has put together one of the most personal pieces we’ve seen here on PixArt. Take a look at this month’s featured PixArt piece after the break!
