Creative ‘Monsters University’ Window Clings Appear At Movie Theaters

With the sheer number of ads that we are presented with while at movie theaters, it is normal for the marketing of some films to be overshadowed by others. One of the important concepts in advertising is to create something different and memorable so the products get noticed, but it sometimes requires the advertising company to be bold. Disney/Pixar has done a great job at creating a Monsters University marketing campaign that capitalizes on the school that the film is based around. The film’s in-theater advertising, which first emerged in February, has also been creative. After the break, take a look at some more fun displays that have started to appear in movie theaters.

Clever ‘Monsters University’ Standees Arrive In Theaters

Much of the conversation about Disney/Pixar’s marketing campaign for Monsters University has centered on the clever nature of the viral website and ads that have been released thusfar. The fictional school has provided the promotion team with with an opportunity to market the school, and in turn, the film. With the film still months from release, there is a lot more to come with respect to advertising. We have received word that standees are beginning to appear in movie theaters around the country. New ‘Brave’ Trailer Hitting The Web Tomorrow

With the film’s release date being less than two months away now, word has arrived that the new trailer for Brave will hit the web tomorrow. Recently, we have been getting new featurettes, with them providing us some exposition on Merida’s story and her triplet brothers but also previewing some new footage. There has been a new trailer playing with Disney’s Chimpanzee, which opened on Friday, so the new trailer is likely the one playing in theaters. [Read more...]

Another huge Cars 2 day is upon us, as earlier today Disney/Pixar debuted the new full-length trailer for the film. Now, we have something else that is different but still exciting. The studio put together retro-style posters promoting the release of the film. They are creative, beautiful, and they emphasize the amazing landscapes in different areas of the world. A Look Back At Toy Story 3′s Creative Oscar Campaign

The marketing team at Disney/Pixar knew that since Toy Story 3 was an animated film, they would need to employ creative tactics to raise awareness of the film come awards season. Not only were they going for Best Animated Film, but Best Picture was also on their minds. They rose to the challenge as they released tongue-in-cheek “For Your Consideration” posters that referenced past Best Picture winners like The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, On The Waterfront, The Silence of the Lambs, Slumdog Millionaire, Platoon, and more. Though Disney is in charge of the marketing, it is not difficult to see that whatever Pixar, its films and characters grace (even if it is an advertisement), it is fantastic. [Read more...]

Acer & Grem Drive Into Cars 2

After the five Academy Award nominations were announced for Toy Story 3 this past week, Disney/Pixar is flying high. The studio wasted no time in shouting the film’s recent achievements from the rooftops (literally). On Twitter, director Lee Unkrich tweeted the following photo that was taken in Downtown Hollywood:

The picture serves as a nice reminder to the folks located in the film industry’s backyard. Too bad it probably will not go up in many (any?) other cities. Wouldn’t it be great to walk by the gigantic billboard every day on your way to work or school?

Pixar Cars 2 Partnership Leads To Life-Size MACK

Disney/Pixar has formed a partnership with the Australian-based V8 Supercars (akin to NASCAR) to help raise awareness of the studio’s upcoming film, Cars 2. The first of several stages set forth in the agreement includes a life-size version of MACK. As the promotion for Cars 2 kicks into full gear, Disney/Pixar has done a great job at staying connected with us. The Twitter account for the studio has been continuously active, and the Facebook page for the film has been a nice source of new character images and descriptions. A Glimpse At Three New Cars 2 Characters [UPDATE]

Disney/Pixar has just posted images of three brand new characters that will be seen on the racetrack in Cars 2. From the looks of it, they will probably be competing against Lightning McQueen in the different races located around the world.

The images are not hi-res and the characters do not have descriptions just yet. The Cars Showcase on the Cars 2 Facebook page, which was the source of these images, has blank fields where the character descriptions normally reside. If I had to call it, we will probably see high-resolution images and descriptions for these three later today. Stay tuned.

Update 1 (3:30 PM): Due to a glitch on the Cars 2 Facebook page, the images were released before they were meant to be. Out of respect for Disney/Pixar, I have removed the images. I am sure we will see them again soon!

Update 2 (8:00 PM): Disney/Pixar has unveiled brand new character Carla Veloso. Click here to view hi-res image and video.

Cars 2 Characters Teased on Facebook

In the trailer that was released for Cars 2, we saw the appearance of many new characters. During the past several weeks, Disney has unveiled character images and descriptions for the returning cast, as well as for a few brand new characters, Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. Disney/Pixar has been doing an incredible job connecting with fans, as the animation studio is very active on popular social networking sites, Twitter and Facebook.

On the Cars 2 Facebook page, a tab labeled “Cars Showcase” was recently added. It shows off images and descriptions for all of the characters that have been unveiled so far. However, clicking through to the end shows silhouettes of 20 characters that will likely be revealed in the coming weeks. Most of them were likely present in the trailer, but it will be interesting to see if there any previously unknown characters present amongst the silhouettes.  Below is a gallery of all the character teases:

Video: Holley Shiftwell Turntable

The focus of promotional images and videos for Cars 2 has recently shifted towards the new characters, as just a few days ago, we saw the release of some great new images of Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. We’ve already seen the turntable video for Finn, and now Disney/Pixar has given us a look at Holley in motion. View it below:

In a keynote speech at AutoWeek, co-director Brad Lewis said Holley could be characterized as a Bond girl, as there is a spy theme to the sequel film. From the video, there already looks to be an interesting (and mysterious) quality to her character.

We will know more when Cars 2 hits theaters in June later this year!

New Image From Cars 2 Shows Off Japan

You would think that after pulling off a win at the Golden Globes last night, Disney/Pixar would take a break. Guess they did not get the memo, as Disney has released a brand new image from Cars 2 (click to view in hi-res):

Wow, is all I can muster after viewing that. With each successive film, Pixar seems to pull off higher quality animation, and Cars 2 seems to be holding true to that. The colors alone look fantastic here. I can only imagine what Lightning & Co.’s stay in Japan will look like in motion within the final product.

Yesterday, the Disney Awards website was updated to include 11 more Toy Story 3 ‘for your consideration’ ads, and boy are they fun to look at. Continuing the greatness seen in the ads evoking Shakespeare In Love, Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and The Silence of the Lambs, the following 11 reference other Oscar Best Picture winners such as The Godfather: Part II, Rocky, Slumdog Millionaire and The Sound of Music.
