The film The Incredibles was a story about a family that happened to have super powers. One of the reasons it was so good was that audiences could relate to the family and the problems the members of the group were each experiencing. Still, Bob Parr, Mr. Incredible, was in the lead role. For the sequel, it is his wife, Helen Parr (a.k.a. Elastigirl), who is at the forefront of the story. Some have wondered whether Pixar decided to develop a woman-led story following everything happening in the news, inside and outside of the studio. Brad Bird, director of Incredibles 2 has now gone on the record to state the facts about this. Read what I heard him discuss after the break. [Read more…]
Sequels are not easy to make. Actually, let me rephrase that. They may be easier to make than original films but challenging to make well. Although characters, their personalities, and the world their stories take place in have already mostly been created, providing a fresh perspective that is not simply a retread of the first film is often difficult. It is why we have many sequels that do not capture the creativity and ingenuity of their predecessors. I had the chance to hear from Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird on why he is making a sequel. The first Incredibles film was released in 2004. The Brad Bird-directed feature is the number one request for a Pixar sequel, even from among many who prefer that the studio focus on non-sequels. The most probable reasoning behind that is that The Incredibles is often cited as being one of the best superhero capers (I would argue that its focus on family, rather than the superhero aspect is what makes the film so good). A sequel is indeed in production, and is being released sooner than originally announced, as it is now coming in 2018. Work on the film is well underway, including voice work by its great cast. In 2015, Pixar will release two original films, Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur, with the former generating incredible buzz heading into its summer release. However, there is still a great deal of interest in the animation studio’s sequels, mostly because millions have fallen in love with the memorable characters and locales. Aside from Finding Dory, no follow-up is surrounded by more excitement than The Incredibles 2, which Brad Bird revealed he is currently writing. [Read more…]
Two weeks ago, Disney confirmed that The Incredibles director Brad Bird is currently writing a story for a sequel. The original superhero family adventure is one of the studio’s highest regarded films, setting expectations for a follow-up incredibly high. All of the members of the Parr family would likely return, including what may be a grown-up Jack-Jack. We are now hearing that Frozone, a fan-favorite character, is also set to return!
Last year, Pixar President Ed Catmull detailed the studio’s plans to release an original film every year, and a sequel every other, totaling up to three films every two years. Up to this point, we have seen sequels (and a prequel) for the Toy Story, Cars, and Monsters, Inc. franchises, but there has been one franchise, above all others, that has had a loud group of fans begging for a follow up – Brad Bird’s The Incredibles. Today, Disney announced two Pixar sequels that are in development, The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3.
Ever since Brad Bird directed The Incredibles, there have been fans begging him and the animation studio for a sequel. In interviews for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (which was a good film with great action set pieces if you haven’t seen it), Bird said he has not had much time to think about an Incredibles sequel but wouldn’t be opposed to making it. Well, a fan by the name of Edwin Rhemrev has gone ahead and created some concept art for his vision of The Incredibles 2 (thanks to Animatie Blog for the heads up), and it looks kind of awesome. Take a look at his cool artwork after the jump! [Read more…]
Ever since The Incredibles hit theatres, many fans have been clamoring for a sequel. It is an interesting situation, as many people have also said that they would rather Pixar work on original films. The studio answered that call this year when they announced a slate of brand new films, one taking place in a world where dinosaurs are still roaming around and the other that takes viewers inside the human mind. However, The Incredibles seems to be the one main exception to the “no sequel” call from movie buffs. The film’s director, Brad Bird, was asked by Movies.com (via First Showing), why we have yet to see a sequel to his big hit. His answer? Oh yeah – we already knew the answer. [Read more…]
