New ‘Brave’ Trailer Attached To ‘Muppets’?

BRAVE

The first (and only) Brave footage that has been publicly unveiled was the teaser trailer that arrived with Cars 2 way back in June. That was about five months ago. While Pixar showcased a few scenes from the highly-aniticipated film at the D23 Expo in August (you can read about the scenes here), attendees were the only ones who got a glimpse at them. With Disney’s The Muppets coming to theatres the day before Thanksgiving, it is the most likely time for a new Brave trailer to drop. [Read more...]

©Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

In our extensive coverage of the D23 Expo this past week, we have shared much of the new details from the panels held at the show. We were shown more new Brave footage than we have ever seen from a Pixar film that is still one year away from its release. Additionally, new plot details emerged, such as what those little beautiful blue lights seen in the teaser and poster are and what they can do. Disney also released an updated synopsis for the film, which fills in some holes on what leads to the mess that main character Merida creates. D23 2011: Images From The Huge Walt Disney Studios Presentation

ANDREW STANTON, JIM MORRIS, LINDSEY COLLINS, DAN SCANLON, KATHERINE SARAFIAN, RICH ROSS (CHAIRMAN, THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS), JOHN LASSETER (CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER, WALT DISNEY AND PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS), MARK ANDREWS, PETE DOCTER, BOB PETERSON, JONAS RIVERA, JOHN WALKER

The Walt Disney Studios presentation on Saturday at the D23 Expo proved to be the most jam-packed of all the panels and events at the show (and was also the hardest to get into, as even those who lined up two hours before did not make it in). Featuring sneak peeks at the various films coming from Pixar, Walt Disney Pictures and Animation, and Marvel, all electronic devices (e.g. cameras, laptops) were checked in before attendees were allowed into the arena. However, official images from the event of the directors and the actors talking about their films have been released.  [Read more...]

D23 2011: The Art of Brave Panel

©Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

D23 Expo goers were given a rare and wonderful opportunity this past Sunday when Pixar presented “The Art of Brave.” The panel, hosted by production designer Steve Pilcher and shader art director Tia Kratter, offered a glimpse into the production and visual development process of the studio’s next animated feature. This really was something special. It was like personally being walked through an “Art of…” book with the artists themselves. They revealed beautiful concept images and pencil sketches featuring everything from landscapes and environments to characters and costumes.  From what was shown, it is clear that this will be one of Pixar’s most beautiful films to date. D23 2011: Pixar Previews Brave With New Plot Details And Clips

©Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

John Lasseter was on hand at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA today to reveal the line-up of animated films coming out of Walt Disney Animation Studios, DisneyToon Studios and, of course, Pixar! Clearly, one of the most anticipated of the lot was next summer’s Brave. The studio took this opportunity to release a few details from the lamp’s next feature, which is its first original story since 2009′s Up. Lasseter brought out producer Katherine Sarafian and the very lively director Mark Andrews (dressed appropriately in a kilt and flowing locks) to talk about production on the 2012 film. Andrews and Sarafian played a montage of clips including scenes from the teaser trailer as well as rough production footage shown for the first time to an audience. Much of it was conceptual footage that needed more work before it can be seen in the final film. They also showed an extended clip from the film. This was the first time an audience outside of the studio was viewing this still-in-progress scene. All of the animation and modeling had not been completed.

Note: If you don’t want to know anything about the film before seeing it for yourself, stop reading here. [Read more...]

BRAVE

The huge Walt Disney Studios panel just let out here at the D23 Expo, and if Disney was trying to leave an impression with media and fans, they truly succeeded. Previewing films from Marvel Studios, their animation and live-action branches, as well as Pixar, Disney brought out a ridiculous amount of clips, directors, and writers to talk about their upcoming films. We were provided with clips and artwork from Pixar’s 2012 and 2013 films, Brave and Monsters University, respectively. Pixar also surprised the D23 attendees with the announcement of two brand new (and completely original) films – one involving dinosaurs and the other focusing on how the mind works. Read on for a quick recap of the fantastic presentation! [Read more...]

John Lasseter Discusses Brave’s Technical Challenge

BRAVE

A few days ago, during promotion for Cars 2, director John Lasseter spoke about Brave to Irish Film & Television Academy guests in Dublin. While many of the previous quotes on Brave have revolved around it being Pixar’s first film where the central character is a female, the Irish Film and Television Network quotes him on the challenge that arises from it also being the studio’s first period film. All the employees have to do is some research on how objects looked in medieval Scotland and can then simply translate that to animation – right? Not really. Read on to see why John Lasseter says it is not quite that easy. [Read more...]

Four ‘Harry Potter’ Actors Set To Star In ‘Brave’

Robbie Coltrane

While Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is currently smashing box office records left and right, one common question being asked by fans is, “What now?”. The seven book Potter series (and eight part film series) finally reached its conclusion yesterday and people are looking to latch onto another fantasy. When Brave was first announced, I was enthused by Pixar’s first film with a gritty, fantasy feel to it. However, that’s not the only similarity to the series starring the boy wizard. There are four Harry Potter actors who are attached to star in Brave, including Kelly Macdonald, who is voicing the animated film’s main character! [Read more...]

Brave Director Mark Andrews Reveals New Plot Details

©Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Many are fascinated by Pixar’s 2012 film, Brave, as it is the studio’s first film where the protagonist of the story is a female. Not only that, but it is the first fantasy film to come out of the Emeryville-based studio. The teaser trailer and the concept art that have been displayed show off a darker tone than we have gotten from other films such as Monsters, Inc. and Ratatouille. Plot details have been scarce – we know that Princess Merida unleashes a curse upon her kingdom and she must set things right. Director Mark Andrews spoke with The Daily Record about the film, and he revealed a few more details about the film’s story. Read on but beware of possible spoilers (at least for those who want to know nothing about the plot), as Disney/Pixar has not released some of these details. [Read more...]

Cool: German ‘Brave’ Logo

Brave German Logo

In order to adapt films to fit their target audience, various regions around the world often alter the title to films. This is nothing new. Obviously, Brave is a very English adjective so it will likely receive many name changes worldwide. Bleeding Cool has unearthed the title and logo for the film in Germany, and we think it’s pretty cool. The texture of the logo is similar, but with the letter placement, certain aspects had to be moved around. Read on to take a look at the logo for Merida: Legende Der Highlands. [Read more...]

Brave Character Images Leaked

Leaked Brave Characters

A few days ago, character images from Brave were leaked online. I chose not to post them at the time because they were not meant to be out in the wild just yet (perhaps we would have seen them in an “Art of Brave” book?). Those images have now made the rounds online, and it looks like they are here to stay. Take a look at them here and see why I consider the release of these images to be such a big deal. Read on to check out my rant! [Read more...]

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the popular magazine has debuted the first official still from Pixar’s 2012 film, Brave.
