‘Art of Monsters, Inc.’ Hardcover Returns To Print After Being Unavailable For Years

One of the reasons why Monsters, Inc. is one of my favorite Pixar films is the imaginative world created by director Pete Docter and his supporting staff – the character design and architecture of Monstropolis are incredibly creative, bringing a unique bustling city to life on the screen. Back in 2001, Monsters, Inc. was the first film to receive the “Art of…” treatment from Chronicle Books, which has gone on to release a stunning art book for each subsequent Pixar release. After being unavailable for sale through retailers for years, the hardcover book is now back in print!

With the popularity of Monsters, Inc. over the past decade, the art book has been highly sought-after, being sold on Amazon and eBay for over $100 by those lucky to have procured copies before they vanished from stores. When Pixar announced that it was develping a prequel to the film, Monsters University, it was a no-brainer for Chronicle to bring “Art of Monsters, Inc.” back to stores – it was just a question of when.

Yesterday, as Mike from Big Screen Animation pointed out, Chronicle Books posted on its blog that it brought copies of the reprinted book to Comic Con. The result? Even without publicly announcing that it had the book on sale at its booth, the book was all sold out by the morning of the second full day of the four day convention, illustrating just how many people still want the book. No reason to fret, though, as the publishing company now has copies available for sale on its website for the price of $40, far less than what you would have seen it online just a few months ago.

You can purchase “The Art of Monsters Inc.,” which clocks in at 144 pages, here.

FML.. I was one of those who bought the book for $100 on Amazon. Used. I remember Mike said there might be a re-print along with the release of MU, but I chose to act hastily. Well, at least mine is from the first edition :D

Thanks for letting me know about this. That’s the last book missing from my collection and I’ve been trying to get it for years… at the right price.
