D23 2011: New Toy Story Toon “Small Fry” Plot Details

One of the greatest reveals at today’s Pixar Short Films panel was the confirmation of the next Toy Story Toon. Entitled “Small Fry,” the short refocuses on Buzz after placing Barbie and Ken in the spotlight for the first Toy Story short, Hawaiian Vacation. Not only did director Angus MacLane provide the title of the upcoming short, he also spoke briefly about the set-up for the short and surprised the audience with a short clip as well. Read on for more details on what we learned!

D23 Expo attendees were treated to the short but substantial clip, which gave away a few plot points. Looks like Buzz Lightyear is left behind at a fast-food restaurant and must find his way back home. In doing so he encounters some less popular, happy meal-like toys. One of those toys, a Mermaid of sorts, will be voiced by Glee‘s Jane Lynch. The clip was well received by expo goers and certainly left me wanting more. Look for this new short to debut before the new Muppets film opening on November 23, 2011!

Will Tim Allen come back to voice Buzz?

Yeah, I think they kind of work on all of the shorts all together and that Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are under contract to do multiple shorts.

    Oh my gosh, damn excited!
Buzz has always been my favorite character from Toy Story trilogy (just a wee bit more than Woody).
And Jane Lynch is the frosting on the cake!

Is there any word on when the Toy Story clip will be released online? Ever since I heard of Toy Story Small Fry, I’ve been dying to see the clip that was shown at D23.

It’ll probably be released sometime in the coming months, similar to how the brief clip for Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation was released as a teaser of that short.
