Discuss: Cars 2 Easter Eggs

With the arrival of every new Pixar feature film, also comes an easter egg hunt by audiences around the world. The studio is better than anyone else out there at inserting references to its other films, sometimes in subtle ways and other times in a fairly obvious manner. On my first viewing of the film, I spotted several easter eggs, but this discussion is about finding them together, so I will refrain from posting them here for now. Obviously, there will be SPOILERS in the comments section below, so if you have not seen the film (or would rather come across the easter eggs on your own), then come back when you are ready to discuss it!

Note: This is the Pizza Planet Truck from the first Cars film

Comment below and let us know where/when you spotted the coveted easter eggs. Also, whoever can find the reference to Pixar’s 2012 film, Brave, wins at life! Easter eggs for Pixar’s next films are often the hardest to find, as we are never quite sure what to look for. However, we would love to hear any theories!

Well there was the pretty obvious reference to a previous film with “Gasteau’s” restaurant in the France sequence. Other than that I was so into watching the movie I forgot to look for Pizza Planet and a Brave reference!

“Lassetyre” was written on the walls of the last racetrack towards the end of the film.

    “Gastows!!” :D

I think it had something to do with some people’s opinions when the first movie came out, wondering why Pixar chose to place the eyes on the window and not the headlights. Apparently a lot of people were against it and thought it was a strange choice on Pixar’s part, so I think this maybe was a way for them to say: “look how terrible and creepy this looks!” and…”we were right” :)

In Radiator Springs, they were playing “The Incredimobiles” at a drive in I believe

Was the Brave reference in the bar where Acer and Grem beat up, and the double decker buses in london said Callihan Auto parts, a referane to the movie Tommy Boy

I think I may have spotted the Brave reference upon second viewing of the movie today. Towards the end of the Tokyo race after Francesco and McQueen have crossed the rainbow bridge, there’s a neon sign on a building that says “Hot Rod” and it has a picture of a fiery red-haired flame that I thought was a variation on Merida. In England, there are also banners that say “Ackleys” along the track which could be a reference to a new character. The bar where they’re beat up is an interesting theory though.

I saw “harry hausens” when Finn fight with “lemons” behind the Pit. I also saw Kabuto (cars toon Tokyo Mater) in Tokyo party

  • Colin

I caught the Pizza Planet truck on my first viewing. Its in the Radiator Springers Grand Prix at the end on the sidelines watching. It does a fast zoom of him even. Didn’t catch the Brave reference though.

    A113 printed on Siddeley’s tail.

The Brave characters were in London. During the chase scene that goes into a pub there is a Celtic woodcut on the wall or 3 human people. Not cars that looked like them, actual people.

  • Kohler King

Early on in the film, you can see a movie theater in the background playing “The Incredimobiles”

I believe it was in the bar in London, on the wall there was a picture of some Brave “Cars” characters.

Thank you. I thought I was going crazy when I saw it. I’m glad someone else did too.

Yea, I saw Cars 2 again last night and I caught the (3?) characters on a little sign up top in the bar sequence. It wasn’t on screen for very long and from what I recally they were quite stylized and block-shaped :)

  • Riley McKinley

During the end credits, you can see the pixar lamp on the map in the background. I rejoiced when I saw it.

  • Kirby

THe picture of the bad engine had A113 on it.

    • ALHC

The jet carrying the spy cars has A113 on its tail.

Somewhere in the Italian villa sequence is a business called “Topolino,” which is the Italian name for “Mickey Mouse.”

It makes me wonder what all the buildings in Japan say.

The car with the headlight eyes looks like a Chevron commercial car.

I wish that at the end when they were traveling around the world they had had blue or orange “Nemo” submarines around Australia.

Topolino was the name of an old FIAT car!! It’s not Mickey Mouse!

      • Clive

Yes, it is the name of a Fiat car, Wh23. But it’s also the Italian name for Mickey Mouse.

  • Laura

So..No one saw The “The Northwestern” (crab boat) at the begining of the film with Sid (the captin) playing him? I’m the only one that saw that?!?!

    • Michael

I saw that too. I also saw that most of the islands or buildings ooked like cars. When Sir Miles Axlerod starts his quest he is in Australia (YAY I’m Ausse) and Uluru looked lke a car :-)

I think that the jungle where Miles Axxelord lost without oil is the same jungle of UP
